Groovier Times is a collaborative arts and culture project created by Kizzy and Liv who met whilst hosting a student radio show at Manchester University and bonded over their love of all things groovy (as well as their cheesy taste in music).
While discovering hidden gems in the heart of Manchester’s Northern Quarter they stumbled across the creative space in Afflecks. Sat amongst an eclectic mix of tincan trinkets and throw-away treasure was a teddy bear-turned-time-capsule stuffed with messages from Mancunians, all with something to say. A sneak peak at the first note revealed the phrase “Groovier Times Are Ahead” which captured their imagination and led to this project.
Here you will find reviews, discussions and opinion pieces exploring groovy times happening in the UK and further afield.
Kizzy just graduated from University of Manchester with a sweet n tasty 2:1 !! Despite this she refused to leave the premises and after they didn’t let her just “hang around” because of “security risks” she decided to enrol onto a masters course in Visual Anthropology. She will also continue her legacy at The Mancunion, this year as head Design Editor because management weighed up the risks and print is a dying art form anyway so why not humour her? She loves all things arts and crafts and fartsy, dreaming of a life where she can paint portraits of a small shetland pony named Doris against a rural Italian landscape at sunset.
Liv studies French and German at the University of Manchester and has written reviews for the State of the Arts magazine, articles for the Mancunion and also has her own blog, Le Projet Culturel. Starting in September 2018 she will be features editor for the Mancunion. In the past year she has lived in Lille and Leipzig, and will eagerly discuss her year abroad experience whenever the opportunity arises.
